Srinagar, Mar 2 : Traffic on Srinagar-Charar-e-Sharief was hit on Saturday after people at Chadoora observed a shut down in protest against allotting Government Degree College (GDC) to another area while residents of Watrihal in central Kashmir district of Badgam protested in Srinagar demanding setting up of a GDC.
Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the road in Chadoora and nearby areas in central Kashmir district of Badgam on Saturday. People alleged that a GDC allotted to the area was now shifted to another area in the district. Traffic on Srinagar-Charar-e-Sharief was also diverted through other routes. The demonstrator threatened to intensify the agitation if degree college was not allotted to Chadoora.
Meanwhile, scores of residents of Watrihal Badgam assembled at Press Enclave near here and shouted anti-administration slogans demanding a degree college in their area to improve the literacy rate. “The government had announced setting up a degree college in our area in 2014, they said and alleged nothing has been done in this regard so far," they said.
Demanding a degree college they said students, including girls, had to travel long distance for continuing their higher education. (UNI)
