Snowfall hampers search operation of five missing Army jawan: CM

Shimla, Feb 25 : Heavy snowfall, blizzard, extreme coldwave, avalanches disrupted the search operation to evacuates five missing Jawan of Indian Army who were trapped in the heavy avalanche near Dogari post near Namgai in Kinnuar district on Feb 20, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said here on Monday.

Replying to a media query during Global Investor meet here, Mr Thakur said that rescue and relief operation is on the war-footing however due to continue snowfall, blizzards and frequent avalanches threat posing challenge to recover the five missing jawan.

He said that more than 300 Army engineers, ITBP jawans and State police rescue teams were tirelessly working to recovery of trapped Jawan of Indian Army, however success could not achieved attributing the inclement weather for creating major hurdle.

Deputy Commission Kinnuar Gopal Chand told media that weather was mainly clear at Pooh this morning however it was cloudy towards the spot. Rescue parties moved toward the spots as the search operation started at 0700 hrs.

He said on Monday more engineering efforts including chain saws and drill machines are deployed to enhance the rescue operations.
