Srinagar, Feb 12 : A soldier was martyred and another was injured in an encounter with militants which ensued between militants and security forces during Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Tuesday morning, official sources said.
Meanwhile, authorities suspended mobile internet service in Pulwama. They said troops of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF launched a joint search operation at 0300 hrs at Ratnipora in Pulwama following a tip-off about the presence of militants.
Security forces cordoned off entire area and sealed all exit points to prevent militants to escape. However, with the first light this morning encounter ensued when security forces marched towards the particular area in the village. Two soldiers were injured in the initial firing by the militants who tried to escape and later entered a house and a school building. The injured were rushed to hospital where one of them succumbed. Another injured has been referred to 92 Base hospital. It is reported two to three militants are trapped in the area.
A police spokesman said encounter was going on when the reports last came in. Meanwhile, authorities suspended mobile internet service in Pulwama. Recently five militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed in a fierce encounter in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. (UNI)
