Srinagar, Feb 4: Large number of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV) carrying essentials and oil tankers, were stranded on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Monday evening again due to fresh landslides and shooting stone.
A traffic police official said that traffic was again disrupted on the highway at Kharpora Banihal, however, concerned authorities have put into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the road.
The authorities had allowed only one-way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar on Monday. However, keeping in view the condition of the road, only Kashmir-bound stranded HMVs were allowed to move.
He said decision to allow traffic on the highway, the only road linking Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, will be taken on Tuesday morning after assessing the weather and road condition.
Meanwhile, the Met department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy snowfall from Tuesday evening till 7 February, which could affect surface and air traffic. (UNI)
