Srinagar, Feb 1: Militants on Friday shot dead a 25-year-old woman from a point blank range in south Kashmir's Shopian district and circulated the video recording of the incident on social media, a police spokesman said.
The woman, identified as Ishrat Muneer, daughter of Muneer Ahmad Dar, a resident of Dangerpora, Pulwama, was abducted and later killed by militants at Zainapora, Shopian.
He said the militants while perpetrating this act made a video of the incident and circulated it on social media. Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation, the spokesperson said.
He said police investigation is focused on some credible leads and it is expected that soon the culprits shall be brought before the law. The woman wearing Kashmiri dress “Pheran” in a short video clip can be seen pleading to gunmen for mercy with folded hands. However, she was shot twice from point blank range in the video.
Locals said the woman was maternal cousin of the militant commander Zeenat-ul-Islam who was killed along with his associate in an encounter at Katpora, Kulgam on January 13. (UNI)
