Photo-journalists boycott RD function as police stops 5 cameramen

Srinagar, Jan 26: Photo-journalists representing local, national and international media organisations on Saturday boycotted the 70th Republic Day (RD) function in Srinagar after security wing of the state police prevented five cameramen from entering the S K International Cricket stadium though they had proper security passes.

'We have security and other passes issued by the authorities concerned authorities through Information department still we were prevented from entering the stadium,' the photo journalists said.

They said their names did not figure in the list which was provided to security wing of the state police. 'We were not allowed to enter the stadium where the main RD function was held,' the photographers Touseef Mustafa, Mehrajuddin, Umar Meraj, Danish and Aman Farooq said. Another senior photo-journalist Habib Naqash said he was not even issued security pass to cover the function.

Later, other photo journalists who were taken to the venue in a police bus from Press Enclave, also decided to boycott the function.

'We are sitting at Partap Park to lodge protest against the decision of the government not to allow photo journalists to perform their professional duties,' the agitated mediapersons said. (UNI)
