Two hunters missing after avalanche hits Kupwara; rescue op launched

Srinagar, Jan 24: A massive rescue operation was launched in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara on Thursday for two people who went missing after an avalanche hit the area, official sources said.

Three local residents had gone for hunting in Rang Warnow, Lolab, forest in Kupwara early Wednesday.

However, in the evening, one of them returned and informed police that an avalanche hit the area when they were moving in the forest. He informed the police and villagers that two persons Bashir Ahmad Hajam and Imamdeen Hajam went missing.

With the first light this morning, a massive search operation was launched despite fresh snowfall.

Last year, three hunters died after they were buried under an avalanche on February 24 at Behak, Lolab, in Kupwara. Their bodies were recovered after about a week. (UNI)
