Srinagar, Jan 18 : Security forces on Friday foiled a grenade attack by arresting a militant minutes before the assault in border district of Kupwara in Kashmir valley.
A Police official told UNI that a youth was noticed moving suspiciously in Kupwara on Friday afternoon.
“The troops deployed on the ground immediately informed the higher officials,” he said, adding a special team was constituted and the youth was immediately taken into custody.
He said upon search a grenade was recovered from the youth, identified as Mohammad Salam Beigh, a resident of Lolab in Kupwara.
“During questioning, the youth confessed that he was asked by militants to lob a grenade in Kupwara following which he would be formally join the militants ranks,” he said.
Police has registered a case and initiated investigation,” he said, adding more arrests could happen in the coming days.
Meanwhile, militants carried out two grenade attacks on security forces within a span of few minutes in the Kashmir valley, including Lal Chowk, the never centre of the summer capital, Srinagar. This is the second grenade attack during less than 24 hours in Srinagar and fourth in the last about a week in the valley. (UNI)
