Anantnag, Dec 8: Three drug peddlers were arrested during two different operations in south Kashmir during the past 24 hours, a police spokesman said here.
He said on a tip off, police established a naka checking at Sangam chowk on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. During the naka, a suspected person was intercepted, he said, adding that during his search, police recovered huge quantity of codeine phosphate.
The drug peddler has been identified as Amir Ali Chopan, resident of Rajpora Pulwama. A case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been taken up.
He said Pulwama police, in its drive against drug menace, apprehended two drug peddlers identified as Aijaz Ahmad Dar and Ghulam Mohammad Mir, both residents of Achan Pulwama. He said 5.5 kg of compressed cannabis leaves and five kgs of poppy straw was recovered from their possession.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been taken up. (UNI)
