KTMF chairman Khan arrested in Srinagar

Srinagar, Dec 5: Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) chairman Haji Mohammad Yaseen Khan was arrested to prevent him from joining protests against the alleged Human Rights (HR) violations by security forces in the Kashmir valley.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, has urged people to hold peaceful candle light protests for a week from December 3 against the HR violations.

Meanwhile, about half-a-dozen members of KTMF were also taken into custody near Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of summer capital, Srinagar.

A spokesperson for the KTMF told UNI that Mr Khan, who also heads Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), was detained near his office at Abi-Guzar in the civil lines on Wednesday. He said as soon as Mr Khan was leaving his office to participate in the protests, he was taken into custody and later lodged in police station Kothibagh.

'We had announced to hold protest in Srinagar today against the HR violations in the Kashmir valley by security forces,' he said.

He said later, about six more KTMF members were arrested by police at Lal Chowk by the police. 'We are going to hold protest at Press Enclave,' he said. (UNI)
