Shutdown continues in Sopore

Baramulla, Dec 1: Life remained affected for the third consecutive day on Saturday in apple township of Sopore in this north Kashmir district, where a local militant Mehrajuddin Khan of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed along with Naveed Jatt, a Pakistani national in an encounter at Chattergam in Badgam district on Wednesday.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Sopore and adjoining areas.

However, private vehicles were seen plying in some areas. Work in government offices and banks was also affected. Educational institutions also closed in the town. However, on the outskirts, less number of students attended schools due to apprehension of trouble.

Naveed, a top commander of LeT and his associate Khan were killed in an encounter by security forces at Chatergam, Budgam, where one militant emerged alive from under the debris of the damaged house and later escaped. (UNI)
