Srinagar, Nov 22: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik dissolved the state legislative assembly on Wednesday evening.
The move of the Governor is said to stop the move of PDP leader and former CM Mehbooba Mufti to form a government by stitching an alliance with rival National Conference and Congress. Mehbooba Mufti released a letter on Twitter on Wednesday announcing that she would seek to form the government with her traditional rivlas, the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference(NC) and Congress. But the Centre believed that their move to form a government based on an unlikely alliance would deepen the crisis in the Jammu and Kashmir. The Governor’s unexpected move will end the possibility of a government formation. In a statement, the governor justified dissolving the assembly citing reports of extensive horse trading.
Earlier, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and People's Conference leader Sajad Lone, who is backed by the BJP, have made claims to form government. Ms Mufti said her Peoples' Democratic Party has the support of arch-rival Omar Abdullah's National Conference and the Congress.
The state has been under Governor's Rule since June, when the BJP ended its ruling alliance with Ms Mufti.
