Yasin Malik arrested in Srinagar ahead of ULB polls

Srinagar, Oct 2: JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik was on Tuesday arrested in the summer capital, Srinagar, allegedly to prevent him from carrying out an election boycott campaign.

A JKLF spokesperson said that a police party raided Abi Guzar office of Malik on Tuesday and detained him.“Malik was lodged in a local police station,” he said, adding that the JKLF chief was arrested to prevent him from carrying out an election boycott campaign.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq and Malik, has urged people to boycott of upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) and panchayat polls in the state.

The 4-phase ULB elections are scheduled to start from October 8. (UNI)
