12 pilgrims killed as taxi plunges into gorge in Kishtwar

Jammu, Aug 21: At least 12 pilgrims were killed and two injured in a road accident in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning, police said.

'A passenger taxi, carrying Machail Yatra pilgrims to Gulabgarh, fell into a deep gorge in the Dool area, adding, " the driver apparently lost control over it and 12 were killed on the spot, two, including a child, who sustained critical injuries, were shifted to a hospital," police added.

Police said that the car plunged into river Chenab. So far, nine bodies have been recovered and identified as Dev Raj Sandasha kumari, Poshpa Devi , Kewal Singh, Nirjala Devi, Jyoti Devi, Sonam Devi, all residents of Mothi Marmat District Doda,

Danesh and Abu Alha, both residents of Banderna Kishtwar. Three others were yet to be identified. On Monday, seven Machail Mata pilgrims were killed and 11 injured when the vehicles came under heavy boulders and landslide in Kishtwar. (UNI)
