Two-hour rain brings Srinagar life to grinding halt

Srinagar, Aug 7 : Life came to a grinding halt in Srinagar and adjoining areas following heavy rainfall and cloud burst, disrupting normal traffic and pedestrian movement, power supply and tele-communication services.

After over a week long hot and dry weather, weather suddenly changed on Tuesday and it rained heavily for two hours. Majority of roads were inundated due to faulty drainage system. Students could be seen waiting under every shelter in the area. Maulana Azad road and Residency road were also water logged, bringing traffic movement to halt .

Majority of lower class students could be seen returning to their homes. Parents at Dalgate and other areas said, due to heavy rain schools buses could not operate on some routes.

A report from down town said that there was cloud burst at Daulatabad, Rainawari on the bank of Dal Lake. Water has entered almost all houses in the area. However, rain provided much needed relief to people after over a week-long hot, humid and dry weather. UNI
