Srinagar, Aug 7: Four soldiers, including an officer, were martyred and two infiltrators were gunned down near the Line of Control (LoC) immediately after they sneaked into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in Gurez sector of Bandipora district on Tuesday.
The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, Defence Ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia told. Official sources told UNI that troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from PoK in Gurez sector in north Kashmir district of Bandipora.
"When challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened fire," they said."The fire was returned and in the ensuing gun battle, two infiltrators were killed," they said.
However, they said an Army officer and three soldiers were also killed in the exchange of fire. “The operation was still going on when the reports last came in,” they added. Gurez sector is surrounded by PoK from three sides. (UNI)
