Dhaka, May 22 : Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday called West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and enquired about the damages caused by cyclone Amphan.
"The Prime Minister Hasina phoned the West Bengal Chief Minister at about 1110 hrs and enquired about the damages caused by the cyclone in the state", PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told UNI over phone.
He said Ms Hasina expressed sympathy to Mamata Banerjee over the loss of lives and property by the cyclone, and hoped that India will soon be able to overcome them. In return, Ms Bannerjee thanked the Bangladesh premier for her concern. Cyclone Amphan made landfall on Wednesday evening and caused huge damages in West Bengal and Bangladesh coastlines. The cyclone has caused heavy damage in West Bengal and claimed over 80 lives. (UNI)
