Dhaka, May 22 : The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases on Friday surpassed 30,000-mark with 1694 fresh cases reported in the last 24-hour. The country on Friday also recorded 24 more coronavirus-related deaths, the highest single-day spike, taking the tally to 432, the Directorate General of Health Services ADG prof Dr Nasima Sultana said in DGHS' regular bulletin on coronavirus. In the last 24 hours, samples of 9,727 people were examined.
Among them, 1694 tested positive for the Covid-19, bringing the country's total number of positive cases to 30,205. The official said the number of total recovery from the deadly virus stood at 6,190. Of these, 588 people recovered in the last 24 hours. She also mentioned that a total of 2,23,841 samples were examined since the outbreak started in the country. Prof Nasima urged everyone to stay at home and follow health guidelines issued by the health department to stem the transmission of the virus. Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8. Since then, the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths. The first COVID-19 case was reported in Wuhan, China and then spread to 213 countries and territories.
As of Friday, the epidemic infected 5,209,860 people and killed 334,878 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles a number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it. However, total recovery from the coronavirus pandemic reached 2,092,757 across the world. (UNI)
