In a scathing attack on the World Health Organisation (WHO), the US President, Mr. Donald Trump, on Tuesday called the United Nations health body a ‘puppet’ of China. He also warned that the US may make its freeze on WHO funding permanent and may also consider pulling out of the organisation.
In a letter to WHO Director General, Mr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, the US President wrote: 'If WHO doesn't commit to major substantive improvements within the next 30 days, I will make my temporary freeze of US funding to WHO permanent and reconsider our membership in the organisation.'
oday that the WHO had opposed his government’s ban on travel from China, imposed in late January. Had that measure not been put in place, more people would have died from coronavirus in the US, Trump claimed.
“The World Health Organization was against it. They were against me doing the ban. They said you don't need it, it's too much, it's too severe, and they turned out to be wrong,” he said.
“They (WHO) are a puppet of China. They're China-centric, to put it nicer. But they're a puppet of China,” Trump told the media at a White House press briefing.
