nCov: 16 more dead, 930 newly infected in last 24 hours in Bangladesh

Dhaka, May 16: Bangladesh on Saturday reported 16 more deaths due to novel coronavirus while 930 fresh cases were detected in the last 24 hrs, mounting the death toll to 314 in the country. With the new figures, the number of infections has reached to 20,995, said Directorate General of Health Services additional director general Nasima Sultana in her daily online bulletin on COVID-19 situation.

She said that the information was from tests reports of 33 labs among 41 in the country. Bangladesh on March 8 confirmed the first COVID-19 case and the first death on March 18. The country has passed 70th day on Saturday since the first infection. Nasima said that among the infected, 605 were in the capital and 325 were in other districts.

Among the 16 new deaths, seven were in the capital and five were in districts of Dhaka division, two were in Chattogram and two were in Rangpur division. On Saturday, 3,046 suspected patients were in isolation. Besides, 235 more people got recovered from their infections, totaling the number of recovery of 4,017 people. (UNI)
