Covid-19 death toll rises to 250 in Bangladesh in last 24 hrs

Dhaka, May 12 : The death toll from coronavirus has reached 250 in Bangladesh as 11 more succumbed to it in the last 24 hours. Besides, 969 more tested positive for the deadly virus, raising the number of such cases to 16,660. Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of Health Directorate, said this in the regular health bulletin online on Tuesday.

In the last 24 hours, 6,773 samples were examined and out of them 969 tested positive for the virus. A total of 245 more have also recovered, raising the number of cured patients to 3,147, she said. Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8. The pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year. The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 212 countries and territories, killing some 287,540 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles a number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it. As many as 4,270,751 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 1,534,371 people recovered from the virus, the website said. (UNI)
