Kabul, May 11 : Afghan nationals held a protest outside the Iranian consulate in Herat city and the Iranian embassy in Kabul on Monday demanding strong action against Iranian security personnel who were allegedly responsible in the drowning of Afghan migrants in the IranAfghanistan border.
Afghani news agency Tolonews reported that the protestors repeatedly chanted “justice, justice” as they called on the government of Afghanistan and international rights groups to start thorough investigations into the tragedy.
The protestors alleged that these poor migrants were on their way to Iran in search of work and Iran could have merely expelled them, yet what they did was to kill them by drowning. The protestors alleged that Iran has on several occasions treated Afghan migrants roughly. They demanded investigations into the incident. Meanwhile, Afghan government has deployed a probe team which has visited the Dahana-eZolfaqar area, and is carrying out investigations. As per reports, more than 50 Afghans were allegedly tortured and drowned in a river on the Iran Afghanistan border earlier this month by Iranian border guards. The authorities have claimed to have retrieved 34 bodies from the river so far. (UNI)
