Covid-19: No new case in New Zealand for second consecutive day

Agency News

Wellington, May 5: New Zealand continued its impressive record in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic as no new case was registered in the island nation for the second consecutive day, this was confirmed here by the Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield on Tuesday.

Xinhua quoted Bloomfield saying that the nation's cases now stand at 1,486 while the death toll remains unchanged at 20, adding that merely four people are in hospital and none of them are in ICU. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern appealed to the citizens to continue abiding by the country's lockdown rules and to refrain from doing anything that could reverse the gains made over the last few weeks. New Zealand switched from alert level 4 to 3 on last Tuesday and will stay at this level for at least two weeks before a review which would be done on May 11. (UNI)
