Berlin, Apr 30: German government on Thursday announced its decision to ban Shia militant organisation, Hezbollah, making all its activities on its soil illegal. As per reports from Deutsche Welle (DW), the German government has designated Hezbollah a terrorist organization. German Interior Ministry announced on Twitter a coordinated police action is under way across several states to track down organisations linked to the group.

The police is currently investigating certain religious organizations in Berlin, Bremen, Dortmund and Munster that are suspected to have links with Hezbollah. Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shia organization having a political and a militant wing. Almost 10 per cent of Lebanese parliamentarians are from this outfit and the organization is close to Iran, which is believed to be a major supplier of arms to it. Hezbollah is known for its anti-Israel stance including calls for wiping it off the map. (UNI)
