Coronavirus cases rise in Bangladesh; police launch awareness programmes

Dhaka, Apr 9: Coronavirus cases continued to rise in the capital city of Dhaka in the last 24 hours.

Some 20 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the capital in last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) health bulletin. The nation, on Tuesday, confirmed 41 new coronavirus cases and five deaths, bringing the country's tally to respectively 164 and 17, said the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR).

Thirty-eight people, so far, caught the virus in Narayanganj district. Acting on the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, police has launched several awareness programmes against the menace with full cooperation of the public. In Rajbari, the district police launched the awareness programme at Daulatdia brothel by distributing educational materials among children of the sex workers. Dhaka Divisional DIG HabiburRahman attended the programme, held recently, as the chief guest. Police in Rajbari district went door-to-door where they distributed 50,000 hand sanitisers and 20,000 masks made by them. (UNI)
