Two of the largest private labs in the U.S. will together enable themselves to conduct more than 300,000 COVID-19 tests by the end of the week.
In interviews to the CNBC, the CEOs of these largest labs, LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics, revealed this information in the backdrop of growing spread of Covid19 pandemic.
LabCorp CEO Adam Schechter told CNBC that the company is processing around 20,000 tests daily and will by the end of the week be able to “a lot more” than 100,000 tests per week.
Quest Diagnostics is currently conducting about 25,000 COVID-19 tests per day, with plans of increasing daily capacity to around 30,000 by the end of the week, CEO Steve Rusckowski told CNBC. That would put Quest’s weekly capacity around 200,000, he said.
The capacity to test more patients is vital to contain the spread of Covid 19. The success of China and South Korea in their battle against Covid29 was considered as their capacity to quickly build up test labs and the easy access of test kits.
