Maputo, Mar 24: At least 64 suspected illegal immigrants were found dead inside a sealed shipping container in Mozambique, media reports said on Tuesday.
Reportedly the migrants were being transported from Ethiopia. The report further said that the container which was found in the country's northern province of Tete had also 14 migrants that were alive.
The provincial director of health Carla Mosse told a local newspaper that the dead bodies and survivors were found by the immigration service early in the morning in the district of Moatize, in the city of Tete.
It is believed the cause of death could have been suffocation as they were trapped in a sealed container with no ventilation. The news has sent ripples of shock across the continent as illegal immigration remains a big problem across the African continent. (UNI)
