Morgan Ortagus, the spokesperson of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, refuted the claim by Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that the coronavirus was created in America.
In a tweet, Morgan Ortagus said: “Conspiracy theories about the #WuhanVirus peddled by @khamenei_ir are harmful, irresponsible, and 100% false. If the so-called Supreme Leader were a true leader, he’d return the billions in his tax-free hedge fund back to the Iranian people to deal with the virus outbreak.”
On Sunday, Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had alleged that the coronavirus was created in America.
He alleged that the U.S. offer to help Iran contain its coronavirus spread “strange’. He also expressed “suspicions” of the virus originating in the U.S. in a televised speech, saying: “Several times Americans have offered to help Iran to contain the virus. Aside from the fact that there are suspicions about this virus being created by America ... their offer is strange since they face shortages in their fight against the virus. Iran has the capability to overcome any kind of crisis including coronavirus outbreak”.
