Doha, Mar 18 : Qatar’s leader Emir Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani on Wednesday decreed to provide financial assistance to help Palestine combat the coronavirus pandemic, state news agency QNA reported.
"HH the Amir directs to provide urgent financial assistance to the state of Palestine, in support of the Palestinian people and a contribution from the State of Qatar in the global efforts made to combat the outbreak of the emerging Coronavirus (Covid-19)," the agency said on Twitter.
No details were given as to the total sum allocated, but QNA earlier in the day reported that The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees - the UNRWA - announced it urgently needed $14 million to prepare and respond to the outbreak. As of Wednesday, 44 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in the West Bank. (Spunik)
