Take 'common sense' precautions: Obama on coronavirus

Agency News

Washington, Mar 5 : Former US president Barack Obama has called upon the people to stay calm and protect themselves with common sense precautions. "Protect yourself and your community from coronavirus with common sense precautions: wash your hands, stay home when sick and listen to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and local health authorities", Mr Obama tweeted.

He asked the people to skip the masks for the health care workers. "Save the masks for health care workers. Let’s stay calm, listen to the experts, and follow the science", he further said in his tweet. The death toll from the deadly coronavirus has reached 11 in US, plunging people to exercise caution by wearing masks.

The World Health Organization on Tuesday had warned that severe and mounting disruption to the global supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) – caused by rising demand, panic buying, hoarding and misuse – is putting lives at risk from the new coronavirus and other infectious diseases. "Healthcare workers rely on personal protective equipment to protect themselves and their patients from being infected and infecting others", WHO had said. It also called upon industry and governments to increase manufacturing by 40 per cent to meet rising global demand. (UNI)
