The death of man in the Philippines due to Coronavirus has marked the death outside China due to deadly disease.

The patient succumbed to Coronavirus on Sunday was from China. He arrived in the Philippines a few days before as part of travel. The 44-year-old Chinese man who is from Wuhan, in Hubei province, was admitted to a hospital in Manila, where he developed severe pneumonia which led to his death later.

A World Health Organization (WHO) report indicates he was infected with Coronavirus earlier, during his days of stay in China’s Wuhan. The Philippines Department of Health report also said that the Chinese man travelled to the Philippines from Wuhan, via Hong Kong. There was a Chinese woman also along with him. The 33-year-old woman is under treatment in a hospital in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, along with the man.

By this time, 305 people have died, and around 14,000 people have been infected. The US, Australia and an increasing number of other countries have barred the arrival of foreigners from China and are requiring their own citizens to be quarantined.

A BBC report quoting Rabindra Abeyasinghe, the WHO representative to the Philippines, said that the Chinese man’s death in the Philippines was the first reported death outside China due to Coronavirus.
