Washington, Jan 12 : Ahead of the visit of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Alice Wells, to New Delhi on Wednesday, the US has voiced concern over the continued detention of political leaders and restrictions on internet in Jammu and Kashmir.
The State Department's Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) said that it was closely following last Thursday's visit of Ambassador Keneth Juster and diplomats of other countries to Jammu and Kashmir.
"We remain concerned by detention of political leaders and residents, and Internet restrictions.We look forward to a return to normalcy," the Bureau said on behalf of Wells on Saturday.
Wells will be in New Delhi from January 15-18. She will attend the Raisina Dialogue and meet senior government officials to advance the US-India strategic global partnership following the success of the 2019 US-India 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue.
Wells will discuss topics of mutual interest with members of the business community and civil society. (UNI)
