Dhaka, Jan 11: Bangladesh foreign ministry on Saturday said that it has noticed few 'misleading' news items published in different media, regarding the supposed visit of State Minister Md Shahriar Alam to participate in Raisina Dialouge in New Delhi.

The Ministry, in a statement said that Mr Alam was invited as a speaker in the Raisina Dialouge which coincides with his visit to UAE to accompany Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"As such State Minister Alam could not avail the participation. A regret letter, on this regard, has already been communicated with ORF", the ministry said.

"It may be noted that there was no bilateral engagement scheduled during the visit. The inability of his participation has no other connection", the ministry added.

Several outlets had reported that Alam cancelled his participation due to the passage of a new law offering citizenship to minorities persecuted in different countries, including Bangladesh, and the omission of 1.9 million from a list of citizens in Assam. (UNI)
