Dhaka, Dec 3: Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid has urged members of Bangladesh Army to work for the welfare of common people, apart from ensuring the country's security and sovereignty.
All power belongs to people in a democratic government system. All activities of the State and government are carried out for the welfare of people. You (Army), therefore, should give highest priority to public interest and their welfare while performing your duties, he said.
The president made the statement while delivering speech at the 6th reunion parade of the Signal Corps of Bangladesh Army at Jessore cantonment on Tuesday.
Stating that public’s money is spent for Bangladesh’s development and to meet expenses of the State, he said: So, you will have to stand beside people during their need apart from ensuring the national security.
Hamid hoped that Bangladesh Army will follow national integrity strategy while performing their duties with honesty and sincerity.
President Hamid, also commander-in-chief of Armed Forces Division (AFD), paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Liberation War, and four national leaders, who were killed in jail. (UNI)
