Dhaka, Nov 30 : Bangladesh Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has that the inclusive development and inclusive growth would help the country in empowering the women.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a two-day programme at the Gulshan Youth Club in the city on Friday, she said, "We will have to take forward women through inclusive development and inclusive growth. Due to the initiatives of the government, grassroots women are becoming self- reliant." Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) organised the programme on 16 Days Activism Campaign-2019.
DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam presided over the programme while Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Post Tele Communication and Information Technology AKM Rahmatullah was present as the special guest. DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Abdul Hai delivered the welcome speech.
The Speaker said that Bangladesh has become a bright example for women empowerment and our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Deputy leader of the opposition also female. Today, the opportunity of higher education for women has increased as the government has taken various initiatives, including offering scholarship and forming the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust, she added.
Participation of women in all sectors is increasing. Women are keeping signature in all sectors, including knowledge, skills and capability, she said. "The country’s legal framework against repression of women is very strong," the Speaker said, adding the violence against women will reduce through effective enforcement of the law. (UNI)
