Dhaka, Nov 14 : Two days after a deadly train collision in Bangladesh, another passenger train Rangapur Express on Thursday caught fire after getting derailed at Sirajgonj in Northern Bangladesh leaving eight people injured.
Following the accident, rail communication of Dhaka with the northern and southwestern districts remained suspended. According to Railway's Senior information officer Shariful Alam, six compartments and engine of the Rangpur Express veered off the tracks while it was passing through Ullahpara Railway Station at around 2pm. The engine and two derailed compartments caught fire as oil tank of the train exploded, the official added.
At least six units of Fire Service and Civil Defense were deployed to the site and were trying to douse the fire till the last reports came in, a fire service official who is on the spot, said. A relief train from Pabna’s Ishwardi also left to salvage the derailed train, at around 1515 hrs. (UNI)
