Tokyo, Nov 10 : Tens of thousands of people gathered in Japan's capital, Tokyo, to celebrate the enthronement of the country's Emperor Naruhito.
Dancers, musicians and flag-waving well-wishers marked the occasion during a festival yesterday, Kyodo news reported. On Sunday, the royal couple will parade in a convertible car along a 4.6-km route from the palace to their residence in central Tokyo to mark the enthronement.
The parade was originally scheduled for October 22 but postponed after more than 80 people were killed when Typhoon Hagibis slammed into Japan and caused widespread damage. Emperor Naruhito expressed his deep appreciation of the people's celebration of his enthronement as he and Empress Masako attended a national festival. UNI
