New Delhi, Nov 8: The BJP on Friday sought to downplay the controversy sparked off by the government's decision to withdraw SPG security cover to top Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and said such decisions are taken strictly by the security agencies.
"The SPG security cover cannot be a sense of entitlement. It is tax-payer's money," BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia told a private news channel.
"....We should leave it to the agencies to decide," he said.
"Only after assessing the threat perception, the security agencies decide to upgrade or downgrade security," he said.
Ridiculing opposition charge that the decision is guided by 'political vendetta', the BJP spokesman said adding, for everything that happens, the opposition has developed a habit of calling it 'vendetta'.
"I think the people of the country will judge us....they will understand the reasons why this decision is taken," he said. (UNI)
