The US President, Mr. Donald Trump, confirmed on Tuesday that the top aide of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who could have taken the lead spot in Islamic State, has been terminated by the American troops.
'Just confirmed that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s number one replacement has been terminated by American troops. Most likely would have taken the top spot - Now he is also Dead!' Mr. Trump said.
The US President did not mention the details of the operation which resulted in Baghdadi's death. He also did not identify the individual who was killed by the US forces. The revelation, however, puts to rest, the questions raised over Baghdadi's succession.
Earlier Mr. Trump also shared the photograph of a US military dog involved in the operation that killed Baghdadi. 'We have declassified a picture of the wonderful dog (name not declassified) that did such a GREAT JOB in capturing and killing the Leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi!' Mr. Trump tweeted.
A day earlier, Mr. Trump had said that the American troops had landed in eight helicopters along with specially trained dogs to hunt Baghdadi. He also said that Baghdadi blew himself up with his suicide vest at the end of the tunnel and the robot deployed for the operation was not used.
