The Chinese President, Mr. Xi Jinping, said on Wednesday he was watching the situation in Kashmir and would support Pakistan in issues related to its core interests, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
Mr. Xi told the Pakistan Prime Minister, Mr. Imran Khan, during a meeting in Beijing that the right and wrong of the situation was clear, the report said. Mr. Xi added that the parties should resolve the dispute via peaceful dialogue.
Tensions over the region have risen sharply since August when New Delhi revoked the autonomy of its territory, which both India and Pakistan rule in part. Tensions have risen when New Delhi revoked Article 370 which gave special status to the state.
Mr. Xi is scheduled to hold an informal meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi in Mamallapuram near Chennai from October 11 to 12 and then pay a state visit to Nepal.
