London, Sep 25: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has discontinued his participation in the 74th session of the UN General Assembly and returned to the United Kingdom following the UK Supreme Court's decision to declare his suspension of the parliament to be unlawful, local media reported on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the prime minister's prorogation of the parliament was illegal, dealing a serious blow to both Johnson and the Conservative Party. According to the Sky News broadcaster, he has left New York for the United Kingdom after having a phone conversation with Queen Elizabeth II.
The United Kingdom's exit from the European Union has already been postponed several times amid the failure of London to internally negotiate the divorce terms and is now scheduled to take place on October 31. Johnson has asked Queen Elizabeth II to suspend parliament until October 14 in an attempt to make the deadline, with or without a deal. (UNI)
