Bagota, Sep 16 : At least seven people were killed and another two injured when a small plane crashed in a residential district of Popayan, a town in southwest Colombia, officials confirmed.
The aircraft, which belonged to an airline called Transpacifico, crashed shortly on Sunday after taking off from Popayan, capital of Cauca department, Colombia's civil aeronautics agency said in a statement, reported Euro News.
According to preliminary reports, the twin-engine Piper PA-31-350, which was headed from Popayan to Lopez de Micay, another city in Cauca, crashed at 2pm local time (1900 GMT) after suffering from mechanical failures.
The injured passengers were being treated at a hospital, Popayan Mayor Cesar Gomez said. Colombia’s civil aviation authority said in a statement it was investigating the cause of the accident. UNI
