Islamabad, Aug 30: All traffic lights turned at noon on Friday were switched off and people in large numbers came out on streets to observe a protest against the scrapping by the Narendra Modi Government of special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The call for the stir was given by Prime Minister Imran Khan. It was observed for half an hour from noon. Education institutions, government and private offices, banks, traders, lawyers and military authorities took part in the demonstrations.
Small and large rallies were held across the country. In Islamabad, the main demonstration was held outside the Prime Minister’s office, where a large gathering was addressed by Mr Khan. “Today, all of Pakistan, wherever there are Pakistanis, whether they are our students, or shopkeepers or labourers — today all of us are standing with our Kashmiris,” Dawn quoted Khan as saying. In his address to the nation on Monday, Khan declared that, starting Friday, an event would be held every week to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people. (UNI)
