The news of a 19-year old Sikh girl had been kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam in Pakistan has kicked up a row in India.
The shocking news came out when the parents of a 19-year-old, daughter of a 'granthi' (priest), alleged that she was converted to Islam at gunpoint. Family added that the girl was abducted and forcefully converted to Islam and that she was forced to marry a Muslim boy.
Soon, a video of the girl at the wedding ceremony has also gone viral on social media. In the video, the girl, who is seen sitting beside the boy, says that she was marrying the boy without any pressure. However, the complaint only mentioned that the girl was abducted. It does not say if she was also forced to convert.
Taking up the issue, the Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to take up the issue with Pakistan.
Taking to Twitter, Amarinder Singh said: “Shocking incident of a Sikh girl being kidnapped & forced to convert to Islam in Nankana Sahib, Pakistan". Amarinder Singh also tagged the video, along with his tweet.
Urging the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to take firm and immediate action, Amarinder tweeted: "Call upon@ImranKhanPTI to take firm and immediate action against the perpetrators. Request @DrS Jaishankar to strongly take up the issue with his counterpart at the earliest," he said.
