Beijing, Aug 27: In the season of tough talks by Chinese foreign ministry against the US on trade tariffs, Vice Premier Liu He signalled Beijing's willingness to continue parleys with Washington.

At the opening ceremony of 2019 Smart China Expo in Chongqing, he said "escalation of trade war is not beneficial to the US, China nor to the interests of people around the world". He said China is willing to resolve disputes through calm negotiations.

His remarks came after both China and the US decided to levy more tariffs on each other's exports. Reacting to Vice Premier's remarks, former Chinese Commerce Minister Wei Jianguo said that means China is "hoping" to continue the negotiations and reach an agreement with the US.
On Monday's media briefing by Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said if US companies withdraw from China, others can easily fill in the vacant slot. He also said the US move was unilateral and violated the spirit of Xi Jinping and Donald Trump talks at Osaka in Japan in June.UNI
