Giving a setback to India, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has decided to conduct a closed-door meet on India’s move to revoke Article 370, which gives the special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting will be held on Friday, August 16. Confirming UNSC President Joanna Wronecka told reporters on Wednesday: “The UNSC will discuss the Jammu and Kashmir situation behind closed doors most likely on 16 August".
The UN move is said to be following the strong intervention by China. China formally asked for "closed consultations" in the security council to discuss Kashmir following Pakistan’s letter on the issue to Poland, the Council President for August.
Earlier, UN had rejected Pakistan’s request to have an open discussion on the issue of Kashmir.
