Tehran, Aug 11 : Amid escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday called for diplomatic settlement of Kashmir issue. In a telephonic conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Rouhani said the issue of Kashmir would not be solved through military, rather diplomatically.
"The issue of Kashmir has never had a military solution and we should pursue the resolution of issues diplomatically," Islamic Republic News Agency quoted Rouhani as saying. The Iranian president claimed that his country has always made efforts to prevent tensions and unrest in the region.
The Indian Government scrapped the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two union territories in its decision on August 5. Since then, Islamabad has continuously accused India and downgraded its diplomatic relations with New Delhi.UNI
