Geneva, Aug 2 : United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet will brief the Security Council at an Arria-formula meeting on religious-based violence later in August, council President Joanna Wronecka said at a press briefing."We decided to organize Arria [meeting] on 22nd of August to [mark] the establishment of the International Day to commemorate the victims of acts of religious violence," Wronecka said on Thursday. "The High Commissioner for Human Rights will brief via video conference from Geneva."
Wronecka spoke at the press conference to outline the UN Security Council program under the Polish presidency over the UN body which has started on August 1. Sputnik reported. She said that the primary goal of the informal meeting is to address the safety of religious minorities in armed conflict.In May, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring August 22 as the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief.
