Hafiz Saeed arrest made under Trump’s pressure

New Delhi, Jul 17 : US President Donald Trump claimed that Hafiz Saeed was arrested by Pakistan authorities following US pressure.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Trump posted, 'After a ten year search, the so-called 'mastermind' of the Mumbai Terror attacks has been arrested in Pakistan. Great pressure has been exerted over the last two years to find him.'

The development comes just days ahead of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's maiden visit to the United States. Pakistan authorities arrested Saeed, Mumbai 2008 terror attack mastermind and founder of militant organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who was apprehended by Pakistan on Wednesday, with regards to a terror-funding case. while he was on his way to Gujranwala from Lahore and sent him to judicial remand. The Counter-Terrorism Department has been directed to complete the investigation and submit a charge sheet to the court.

Pakistan is under pressure from terror watchdog Financial Action Task Force, to curb the financing of militant groups. The FATF has put Pakistan under "grey list" for its failure in handling terrorism. (UNI)
