Blast near polling station kills 19 in S Afghanistan

Kandahar, Jun 30 : At least 19 people were killed, including 11 security personnel, in a car bomb blast in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province, local media reported on Sunday.

Among the killed eight members were from the Kandahar provincial election commission.According to police, 11 security personnel were killed in the blasts and shooting conducted by the Taliban in Marof district late Saturday night and 27 others were injured.

Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, the Taliban outfit's spokesperson in the south, claimed on Sunday that their fighters have taken control of the Maruf district center, killing 57 government soldiers and arresting 11 others.Meantime, Aziz Ahmad Azizi, the provincial governor's spokesman confirmed the attack, but termed Taliban's claim as baseless, saying the Taliban militants fled away after suffering casualties.
